Lead yourself into da future day

On Monday the task my team undertook was the stacking cups challenge, which is where you have to stack plastic cups without touching them and try to build the tallest tower. You also have string and plastic bands to help. What my team (grey team) did was we tied the string around some chairs and one of the plastic cups to hold it mid-air. We then put another cup inside the other one and the rest of the cups underneath. We were able to move the cups by using the plastic bands.

Three things I learned about myself during the Cup Stacking Challenge was:

1. I had creative ideas – I had a new idea which was good even though we didn’t use it

2. I am a supportive team member because I listened to other people’s ideas

3. I enjoyed working in a team, it was fun

p.s. Grey is a good colour

Family Celebrations

Birthdays are a special part of our family celebrations. The person whose birthday it is gets to pick the restaurant of their choice go out together for dinner. Most of my family give gifts, such as books or games or money to the birthday person. We also celebrate the day before or day after their birthday along with the actual day of the birthday so that the celebration lasts longer! If our birthday falls on a weekday we celebrate the dinner of their choice on the closest weekend. For example, this year my birthday was on Monday, so we celebrated on Sunday (the day before) so that it wasn’t on a school night and we could spend more time together enjoying the dinner.

We went to Pancake Parlour because I love pancakes and it was an awesome time. What’s your favourite birthday celebration? 🎈🎁🎉

Production Reflection

Last Thursday we had the year 5 production, “Hanging Onto The Bottom Of The World”. The play was about Australia’s history from when Captain Cook found it to when they Federated. In the production my main role was one of the Bridesmaids of the 6th bride (WA).

My favourite scene was the ‘Gold scene’. I was also in the scene as a miner/fortune seeker. The highlight for me was being able to perform on a stage with a live audience. I think that the play was very funny and well written. The audience laughed alot.

Dingo adaptation

This uniquely Aussie animal has adapted to it’s harsh environment in Outback Australia and other parts of the country. This animal is Anis Familaris other wise known as the dingo !

The dingo is basically a wild dog that lives in the wild  such as deserts, and dry grass lands.

These wild dogs can sometimes look like the Australian Kelpie. Their fur ranges in colour from brown, tan, and tawny . They have patches of white, usually on their chest. Their fur can even have a reddish, ginger tinge in the sunlight. This matches their habitat which helps them  camouflage. Dingoes have big ears which helps them hear prey and predators. Their short fur helps to keep them cool.

The Australian dingo is a carnivore, which means they eat meat.Their diet includes rabbits, rodents, birds , frogs and lizards.

Dingoes very rarely bark  but howl like wolves. They howl to defend their territory and to send warnings to other members of their pack. They also howl to look for lost puppies.

Favourite Book Chat

This year my favourite book chat book was ‘Ice Wolves’ by Amie Kaufman. The story is about two twins named Anders and Rayna, who live in a world were the Ice Wolves are protecting the people from the Scorch Dragons. When a child becomes around telve years old  they either transform into an Ice Wolf, a Scorch Dragon or they don’t transform at all. Unfortunately, Rayna becomes a Scorch Dragon and Anders becomes an Ice Wolf and the two become separated. The story then focuses on  Anders trying to save Rayna. The Genre for the book is Fantasy. I liked this book a lot because the storyline was interesting and I loved the characters because they were brave and cool. What was your favourite book-chat book this year?

Toonallook Reflection

Last week my class had camp at Toonallook. Here are some of my highlights.

  • Bike riding
  • The beach
  • The Toona challenge
  • Vegemite
  • The sunrise

I also found camping outside fun but THE MURDER happened…(it’s top secret)

I found Toona really fun and exciting, I can’t wait till’ next year! The jellyfish were cute and I like the activities. The food was delicious thanks to Trish. There were also other staff including two year eleven’s who made the activities and games really fun. Something I found challenging was kayaking, I found it challenging because it was hard to row, my arms hurt and my kayak went slow. I did enjoy kayaking though. The Vegemite was yummy. I like Vegemite.

To get to Toonallook it took a few hours, on the way there and on the way back we watched movies and shows on a mini TV thing. When we got there the girls put their stuff at the girl tents. After we got changed we were put in groups. Group 1 (my group) did bike riding first while group 2 did kayaking first. After this we swapped. On Wednesday night we went camping somewhere near Toonallook. On the other days we did more activities in our groups. On Friday we left on the bus.

Reflection

In integrated this term, we learnt about the Gold Rush. We were all put into partners and chose a building to make. My partner was Leo and we agreed on building the Red Hill National School. We based it off what we remember and photos.

The  Eureka Stockade was a VERY,VERY important instance in Aussie history. It was when many miners and soldiers fought at the Eureka Stockade, which was built by the miners to keep the soldiers out. The miners were out-numbed,some were killed and the rest were hunted down.

When I was working with Leo, we used communication because we discussed what building to do. We also showed collaboration by working together well. Knowledge was another PLA we used because we remembered what the school from Sovereign Hill looked like to make our diorama.

peter Lalor was a famous and important figure in the 1859’s because he led the Eureka Rebellion.

what did you learn about in integrated this term?

Book Week Info Books

This term we judged books on their visuals, information and layout. The five books my grade judged were called ‘Make Believe’, ‘Waves’, ‘Sorry Day’, ‘Bouncing Back’, The Happiness Box’, and ‘Our Birds’. Along with me, most of the kids had ‘Make Believe’ as their favourite but sadly ‘Sorry Day’ won. I also liked ‘Bouncing Back’ and ‘The Happiness Box’. I honestly was a little scared if ‘Sorry Day’ because the visuals were really realistic in a creepy way…

I think a good information book would have all or a lot of information about the topic.
